As for continuing to build her portfolio and keeping her personal work going, Tamara sets herself regular challenges. 'Every month I do something that's completely self-indulgent and that I'm not being paid for. I've found doing that every month and actually getting work out there, those are the things that are bringing completely new clients in.' Of course it seems obvious when you begin to think about it. If you put the work that you enjoy shooting out there in front of potential clients, then they will begin to book you for that work.
Tamara's monthly projects can be something as simple as spending some time at the National Portrait Gallery in London or as complicated as setting up and styling an entire day's shoot. 'Recently I went shopping and I saw this necklace that I knew I had to have even though I don't know when I'll wear it! It was a dream catcher with beautiful feathers and it has inspired an entire shoot. I ended up shooting a set of images about the innocence of children and entering early adolescence and it was just the best thing ever to work on! I think all photographers should challenge themselves and shoot personal work as often as they can.'
