For all of the time and effort that goes into creating the 'perfect' setting, sometimes is just fun to work with what's already on the wall...playful, dramatic, humorous, just about any mood or emotional responses can be elicited by interacting your subject with everyday elements that are all around you.
Working with repetitions of pattern, complimentary or harmonious colours, even suggestive style elements for clothing, all present fresh opportunities. From there, look at the light that exists, and how you can best work your subject into the setting.
Using light direction and texture to make your statement much more obvious in its impact, or subtle in its delivery, creates the final mood that can be entirely original, or reminiscent of styles long ago. Additional opportunities exist, by making use of textures, overlays, edges and image compositions to further add to the image style and create even stronger artistic impact.
