The famous Hollywood madam was convicted in 1995 of conspiracy, money laundering and tax evasion. She spent

21 months in jail as a result. Since being freed she has concentrated her efforts on more legitimate businesses.

7. Chuck Berry

The rock and roll legend spent four months in jail and was forced to put on 1,000s of hours of benefits concerts when he was found to have spent much of the 1970s touring but being paid in cash.


8. Lester Piggott

The most famous British tax evader, Piggott was convicted in 1987 of not declaring £3.25 million income to the Inland Revenue. His three year prison sentence was called a "terrible injustice" by the racing fraternity.

Even this did not bring about leniency in a case where money was moved overseas and documents were fraudulently completed with the intention of evading tax.
