Tell us a little about your background, your first camera and photographic experience and your subsequent emergence as a pro?
I was spoon-fed photography from my teens after my Dad constantly handed me down his Pro cameras / lens for me to play with. However the interest never took hold until he passed me my first digital camera. Suddenly I was hooked & haven’t looked back since, as I love the instant image on the back of the camera but also the manipulation afterwards. Digital photography changed everything but more than anything allowed us to take more risks in our work, especially as wedding photographers.
After becoming sick and jaded with the 9-5 I followed Dad’s advice and assisted a wedding photographer at the weekends until I was confident I could do the job on my own.
Why photography?
If it wasn’t for my Dad’s persistence & generosity I possibly wouldn’t have even considered it, but it is a creative element of myself that I now fully connect with.
Film or digital? Is there still a place for silver halide?
Although I love the magic & mystery of the old school methods, its digital for me every time.
Which camera?
Nikon D700 / D600 nothing too flash or expensive!
Bit of detail about your own studio set-up/staffing. Why (as a customer) would I choose you?
I work by myself on location all the time and don’t usually work from a studio. I try to be different in my wedding photography but as you are working with private clients, I feel you can only push boundaries so far, however I’m still trying to break the mould & feel I attract clients who (mostly) feel the same!
