Why is The Societies of Photographers Convention such a big deal for photographers?
It is a chance to get inspiration through learning, hands on experiences & connecting with people at the top of their game. The trade show is like being a kid in a sweet shop & the 20x16 print competition is the icing on the cake for me. It’s the only week I actually feel normal & it sets me up for a great year bursting with ideas & excitement from the start.

It also confirms to me why I am a photographer.

Is it primarily about the chance to learn from the experiences of imaging icons?
Yes that is a pretty BIG draw!

Your own mentors (living or dead)?
David La Chappelle / Kirsty Mitchell / Richard P Walton / Terry Donnelly

Who today is leading the way in creative social photography and why?
David La Chappelle for me as his images push boundaries in other ways than just than photographic

If you could pick just FIVE seminars (other than your own of course!) to attend at The Societies of Photographers Convention whose workshops would you attend?
Terry Donnelly – on location cos his portraits are just out there!
Damian McGillicuddy – any class cos he is THE master don of light
Trevor & Faye Yerbury cos I love being in the presence of greatness!
James Musselwhite – have you seen his portrait work on wrestlers?
Richard P Walton – cos’ he helps me to think outside the box every single time!

What do you think will be the next big thing in the industry?
Smaller compact ways of shooting & context in images over skill in how to actually work a camera.

Would you want your own children to take up the reins of your empire (or have they)?
I would love that but my only child has bigger fish to fry (& is FAR more academic & switched on in that way than me!)

Your plans for the next five years?
To develop my creative work under ‘Emmajoanne’ & shoot far more conceptual work than I am doing at present… Oh & to be in a position to cherry pick the weddings I shoot!
