Do you enter competitions - if so, is it with your dayto-day work or do you shoot specifically to create a competition image?

I enter competitions when I remember - this year I’ve not entered many, because the end of the month seems to creep up on me unexpectedly. When my children were younger and had earlier bedtimes I seemed to be able to find the time to get a series of images ready for competition. Now they're older and my evenings involve me attending most of their activities. That 24 said, all my competition entries have been from my day-to-day work. I’ve never shot a specific image for competition, not even my SWPP POTY winner.

What do you love the most about being a photographer?

Being creative, just the fun of making something - and also the physics if I’m honest (I'm still an engineer at heart). Although I don’t feel I’m much of an original thinker when it comes to art, I like to make things just for the sake of making them. So as well as taking photographs, I sew and crochet, which keeps me occupied at the children’s activities. I’m also quite happy wielding a jig-saw or drill or tiling a wall or even riveting an aeroplane - and I still like to tickle the ivories from time to time.
