Additionally the bird's foot requires a shadow to ensure reality and make it blend into its surroundings. The portion of the tree below the legs was cloned up onto a new layer (in the overall shape of the shadow) and then a clipped, Levels Adjustment Layer was used to darken things down and create the illusion of a shadow to 'ground' the claws.
