PermaJet
PermaJet are the recent winners of Best Inkjet Paper at The Societies' opulent Trade Awards ceremony for the Oyster 271. But in terms of albums it's the SnapShut Folio that is well worth members checking out, in being described as a unique album system. Unique, as any photographer worth their salt will know, equals high-perceived value. So just the sort of presentation solution we want for our imagery. The hinge system is said to be able to accommodate up to 50 sheets of thicker inkjet paper or 100 pages of plain paper, as desired.
It looks the part too. The SnapShut Folio is available in black or cream colours and with leather effect or smooth finishes. Size wise, we are looking at A5, A4, A3 or A3+ in portrait or landscape and square formats with 15mm spines, which hold about 35 pages/prints, or with 25mm spines, which holds about 50 pages/prints, based on mid-weight 250gsm inkjet paper.
As one would expect there are several unique selling points as regards PermaJet's SnapShut Folio. For starters it features a 100% glue-free hinge design to add, remove or interchange pages in seconds, and thereby creates a book format for any paper media, prints included! On top of this it boasts what is claimed to be a tough, scratch-resistant outer cover designed with repetitive handling in mind. And lastly this makes it eminently suitable for any book or folio needs, as there is the flexibility to create innovative presentations. If you need to edit or add a page, simply fold back the cover, remove the print/sheet, replace/insert and release to 'snap shut'. There is a short presentation video available on YouTube showing exactly how it all works at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCi1si10CXw&feature=youtu.be Prices for the SnapShut Folio are also affordable, starting at £16.95.
GF Smith
With its wide range of high-quality presentation solutions it is perhaps no surprise that GF was the winner of Best Stand at The Societies' Trade Show this January. As we note in our standalone company case study elsewhere in this issue, the freshly re-branded GF Smith's Expressions range of lay-flat albums, which we flagged up when we profiled the brand this time last year, is going strong. As a result, the company has added the ability to cover the albums in 50 colour paper choices from its 'Colorplan Papers' range. This means that photographers and their clients can have everything from the wedding album to the box it arrives in matching - and not just in terms of covers, but also inner end pages. There are also two choices of laminate available for each cover: a matt finish or a gloss finish. In terms of cost, it's in the region of £105 for a 15-page A4 book with 30 sides. Sizes available for Expressions albums are 16x16, 20x8, A3, 14x10, A4, 10x8, 12x12, 10x10 and 8x8.
If it's frames you want and frames you need, however, then there is also a new frame series from GF Smith called 'Lux', which is described as a sleek aluminium frame onto which the image is printed. When mounted, the image appears as if it is 'floating' on the wall. On top of this there's GF Smith's Apertura range, which runs from a 10x12-inch frame upwards in size. Price wise, an Apertura in a Vintage Flock frame is around £122 for a 32x28-inch. Alternatively a popular size of the Lux frame, such as 20x16-inches, will cost £60
In addition, since Christmas 2014 GF Smith has been offering its photographer customers a newly devised reward/loyalty scheme. The deal goes that if existing customers have spent a certain amount during the year - £2,500, £5,000 or £10,000 - they get a percentage back (either 2.5%, 5% or 10% respectively) in the form of a cashback, vouchers or a donation to charity. For a more in-depth look at all of the above, take a look at our longer GF Smith feature or simply visit its new-look website.
