Figure 1. This is the RAW file as shot. The camera has auto-adjusted the white balance to give a colour temperature of 4500°K and a tint of +31; that is, too cool and too magenta (plus tint shifts towards magenta). Jon had sliced a full stop off the metered exposure and this had kept the white flash on the wings from burning out. The exposure level was essentially perfect.
Figure 2. This shows global corrections made in Adobe Camera RAW (ACR). Using the eye dropper the wing flash has been used to neutralise the white. This shifts the colour temperature to 5300°K with a tint reduction to +20 points. Looked at in isolation the bird's plumage looks on the button, but the background is now disturbingly yellow.
