Denton in Vegas - part 3 of 1 2 3 4

The rest of the week flew by. It was nice to be able to get to some classes, something I never have time for in London. Sometimes it was nice to just walk out of the hotel and take the air, albeit crazy Vegas air where you step out the hotel to find a Wookie and Darth Vader directing traffic, a bearded woman playing bongos and a couple of Disney characters posing for tourists. Mad, just mad.

Finally it was show time and my photo walk. I'd scouted around and deliberately avoided the 'nice' bits as everyone else would do them to death. Instead I opted for the service roads that ran through the middle giving the hotel's thinking delivery drivers easy access. The sun shone and we stepped out with local model, Tiffany. It was also good to have another Brit along for the session. Vicky Cooper-Strongitharm had been unable to get to my sessions at the Convention but came to the one in Vegas instead. We were allocated an hour and a half but kept it going for three and would still have been there now had Tiffany not needed to leave. There were so many places to shoot, so much potential everywhere you looked and that light, oh that light! When you added in the Elinchrom Quadra Rangers too then there was a world of possibility to explore.

First we used soft natural light under a bridge. A California sunbounce (silver side up) was used to lift shadows. All shot on Nikon D300 with 70-200mm lens at f2.8. Changing our vantage point gave a range of different looks to the set (Pics A, B and C).

In the next image (D) we turned Tiffany's back to the sunlight, spot metered for her body allowing the light behind her to blow out.

It was around then that we noticed a suspicious character in the gutter! Thankfully it was only our own Richard P who filmed the whole thing on his iphone and put together a fab little video there and then. Check it out on the blog www.dentonphotography.blogspot.com, Cheers Richie.

Next we stepped towards the end of the bridge and played with the soft light and the hard sunlight coming down (F and G). I love the differences you can create.
