An alternative lighting set-up is recommended to SWPP members by stalwart Lastolite which flags up its Ezybox Hotshoe, Trigrip reflectors, Stripbox, Ezybox Speedbox and Triflash as being lighting products worthy of further investigation, with more extensive details to be found at the web address at the close of this article.
Profoto's Area Sales Manager Steven Moore meanwhile suggests a host of kit for fine art photographers, whilst also noting that it will also serve as good 'general purpose' lighting.
"For Fine Art Photography we would normally recommend our D4 Generator and heads," divulges Steven. "This has very tightly controlled colour temperature output, which gives very accurate reproduction of colours. However, a D4 2400 Generator and three heads is £8,000+, so is not in everyone's price range. Our D1 Monoblocs share a lot of the technical characteristics of our other Generator and Head systems, but are only £800 each, or a two-head kit, with stands and umbrellas is just under £2,000 + VAT. You can see that this would fit the budget of a much wider range of photographers.
"Ultimately it does depend on the budget to hand, and to a certain degree how much Fine Art work the photographer was doing; if it was his sole type of work then investing in a D4 kit would be the answer."
