Profoto's D1's are available in a number of rental outlets in the UK, whereas the D4 is a specialist unit, so is available in fewer outlets, so this is another aspect to consider.
The Broncolour lighting range, now distributed in the UK by Hasselblad, is another illuminating family of products worth considering. "Broncolour's new range comprises the top of the range 'Scoro' packs, deemed to be the fastest and most colour consistent flash on the market today, and the new 'Senso' kits, which are an entry level option," says Mark Witney, Hasselblad UK's Communications Supervisor.
The Senso packs feature Broncolour's regulation issue build quality and technology, but are of a slightly lower spec and more affordable price, aimed at young photographers, colleges and photographers just starting out.
"Apart from the Scoro and Senso, the new Mobil A2R is also worthy of note as a battery pack that also has an LED modelling lamp suitable for continuous lighting and video," adds Mark. "And the LED heads can also plug directly in to the mains if you have mains power available."
Interested parties might also like to check out the 'Beauty of Broncolour' tour, taking place throughout the UK from the end of September until early in 2012. This is a series of events that provide photographers with the opportunity to play with all the latest Broncolour kit. "No sales pressure or lectures to sit through, just a no-strings opportunity to come along and try out the gear first hand, with a professional model on hand for all the test shots," promises Mark. The dates for all the events are on the same UK Broncolour website at www.ukbroncolour.com
