Being a passionate photographer in her own right, Melissa understands how photographers feel about their work. Starting out by shooting for the magazine, her own photography has led to her running styled shoots for other photographers. "It's the perfect portfolio building opportunity and for those who are just starting out it's confidence building. It's a really relaxed environment where they're able to ask questions and feel completely comfortable." Melissa adds "I think photographers can lead quite a solitary life at times so it's good for people to come together."
When Melissa suggested the first styled shoot on Facebook it attracted interest from over 50 people. With the help of some friends who were stylists they put on a Jayne Austin themed shoot, with photographers flying in from as far away from America to be a part of the day. Now the group put on about four shoots a year and the project has been running for around two years successfully, bringing together photographers, tutors and stylists from all over the world.
Her dedication to working primarily with photographers, and being a photographer herself, means that Melissa knows the business of photography like the back of her hand and can bring unique knowledge to the table above and beyond most design agencies. "I've spent three years of being a specialist in photography design and that's been great because you get to know everything about the business inside out. I know the workflows and how people work with their clients, it's been fantastic".
