Balancing family and work can be difficult for any parent, but perhaps more so when you own your own business and have young children. "I'm really up front about the fact that I have kids. My kids inform the way I run my business and that's one of the reasons I put pictures of my kids out there and of what we're doing so that people aren't surprised when they see my kids wandering in the background of a Skype call. I'm not a 20 year old designer living in a loft in Soho being all cool and hip, I know what it's like to run a business when you have kids and you feel like you're juggling everything".

Taking things one step further than the average parent in business, Melissa recently teamed up with six other photographers to start the blog Truly Madly Kids. It's a place where all the contributors have a voice for themselves, their kids and their families, but one that is entirely separate from their business. "There are things I like to write about, feminist issues and issues around being a mum and running a business, and this is a great way for me to do that. We all have things to say and we all create images and it was a really great team that came together."
