Gurvir Johal

'It's the challenges that they bring,' says Gurvir Johal when I ask him what he enjoys most about shooting weddings. 'No two weddings are ever alike. I love the emotion of the day and of course the clothes are always fantastic too at an Asian wedding. Photographing a bride in the morning in her traditional bridal outfit is often my favourite part of the day.' Gurvir specialises in creating timeless fashion images with a romantic feel for his clients, taking inspiration from Hollywood icons: 'When you think of James Dean and Marilyn Monroe, they are great icons whose images are still relevant today. Now mix that with the romance and passion from a wedding day!'

With a background in art it's hardly surprising that Gurvir loves to produce images that stir your emotions; 'As the years went by I experimented with different mediums to feed this creative hunger within me. When I found photography, I realised I had found my real passion.' But it was eventually weddings that became his favourite subject to train his lens upon. 'At weddings you are photographing memories that will forever be timeless. There is always a feeling of excitement and a buzz when I'm able to capture the split-second moments that most people don't even notice happening.'
