Gurvir enjoys taking part in the competitions hosted by both The Societies and WPPI across the pond. At the last Convention he was placed second in the contemporary portrait category and took home several merit awards. In the WPPI awards Gurvir has also scored highly, including a score of 93 for a particularly appealing print of a couple in front of the Taj Mahal! 'I think that competitions are extremely helpful for photographers. You can learn so much from sitting in on the judging process where organisations allow it.'
At the Convention Gurvir will be teaching a Masterclass in how to light, pose and shoot a bride and groom in just 15 minutes. 'Every Asian wedding photographer always says the same thing - that there is never enough time given to shoot their portraits! I'll be demonstrating my techniques for both natural and artificial light, posing a couple and shooting the images so that the phrase "not enough time" is never an excuse.' During the class Gurvir will be showing the delegates how he works at speed with a live demonstration with an Asian bride and groom.
If you're interested in shooting Asian weddings but are apprehensive about the time pressures that can be put on photographers, this demonstration is surely one Masterclass that is not to be missed.
