While there are many 'framing' and 'edge effect' software solutions around, many people prefer to have something that is unique to their style or an individual image. An ever-popular effect is that which mimics the rough outline of a painted image or, more particularly, mimics the outline of a 'concept rough' as might be created by a graphic designer. They are usually made with felt tip pens and have a characteristic edge where the artwork reaches the clear white paper. This can be recreated in the following manner:
Preparing the Mask
There are several ways of carrying out the task but we will first make an alpha channel for use as a mask.
1. Take a piece of plain white paper, the size of your image, including its borders. Mark in very light pencil where you wish the border to extend to.
