Preparing to Teach
Joining the Societies two years ago, Brett has enjoyed the camaraderie that membership has brought, and has relished the chance to share ideas with like-minded people. "I've enjoyed entering competitions, as it's a platform to gauge how objective people view my work," he says, "while the Convention is fantastic for catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. The classes are really beneficial, enabling me to hear different views on how people run their businesses, and the Trade Show facilitates a host of suppliers in one place, greatly reducing the time it would take to visit them outside of the show. It also exposes me to suppliers I didn't even know existed."
Following his debut as a speaker last year, Brett is presenting three workshops at the Convention this time around, and he's already buzzing with excitement in anticipation.
"I start off on the Thursday with a Location Seminar about shooting on location for high-end clients," he says. "This talk will cover shooting styles and techniques that appeal to a more affluent market. The control of lighting and posing your subjects, as well articulating your vision to them, will be covered, and delegates will experience first hand how I get my subjects to buy into the images I would like to create. Being present whilst I create images that appeal to my target market, and hearing how I speak to my subjects, will offer invaluable insight into my tried and trusted techniques. In addition to the practical side of creating images, I will share a marketing strategy designed to attract clients who value your brand.
