I was successful in winning many awards for this work, which in turn generated much welcome publicity in the newspapers, radio and television, not to mention the prizes that were there to be won, both for clients and me. It gave the studio and my business a very welcome boost.

A couple of years ago, I decided to attempt a project to challenge myself and perhaps inspire others. I decided to look into a generation of elderly people who are often forgotten.

Having spent a lifetime photographing handsome couples, and families with young children, I decided to track down 20 centenarians.

There is a real beauty to be revealed as a result of the ageing process, lines on faces and hands that have become expressive through the passage of time.

Once I had managed to find one person (generally in a care home, although not all, some still living alone) it would quite often lead to another and so the project would continue.

Naturally, this project was not going to be easy; first and foremost, there was the health and safety to be looked into - no wires trailing which could have proven to be a serious hazard.
