Profoto
Worth exploring from Profoto is its OCF (‘Off Camera Flash’) range, comprising gel kits and a collapsible beauty dish, which is a more portable version of the classic Profoto Softlight Reflector (introduced back in 1980).
The latest version in the OCF Beauty Dish is usable with Profoto’s new OCF Gels plus B1 and B2 off-camera flashes specifically. Construction is of high-quality fabric rather than metal, and two versions are available: either white (for a softer slightly more even light) or silver (for a bit more punch and contrast). When collapsed it can be stored in a small backpack, and the entire package weighs 0.48kg. When mounted, the OCF Beauty Dish boasts a diameter of 56cm and comes supplied with deflector plate, diffuser and carrying bag at a price of £120 + VAT, with the OCF Speedring purchasable separately at £60 + VAT.
The second Profoto product worth flagging up is its 20-strong OCF Gels line-up. Ten of the gels are for the purpose of colour correction and the other 10 are colour-effect gels for creative purposes. All 20 OCF Gels are pre-cut to fit its Off-Camera Flashes - the photographer simply flips through the wallet they’re stored in, takes their pick and places it in the OCF Grid and Gel Holder.
Further creative choice comes in the fact that there are three kits to choose from: a ‘Starter’ kit that comes with the Grid and Gel Holder too, a Colour Correction Gel Pack plus a Colour Effects Gel Pack. Available now, pricing for the starter kit is £60 + VAT, whilst the other two packs are a recommended £40 + VAT each. www.profoto.com/offcameraflash
