I married in 1991 and went on to raise two beautiful daughters. Both loved their ballet lessons (the eldest is now a ballet teacher). When my family were growing up, I fell in love with my camera, whilst taking photographs of family and pets. When my girls became adults, I wanted to do something just for me and learn more about how to get the best out of my camera. But I lacked the confidence to attend a course in person, so enrolled in an online course with the Photography Institute and gained my diploma.
A hidden passion had been discovered and I decided to work towards becoming a photographer – a dream of mine for the past decade. I found I could express myself as a person through photography, but wanted to do it well. So, with much thought, we decided to redesign our back garden to incorporate a purposebuilt studio. We're situated within open countryside, which allowed me to shoot outdoor action pictures for clients too. I painted the studio walls black and shot using natural light, which I love. I'm now training how to use studio lighting. At first I felt intimidated when learning from others, so I built my knowledge slowly and quietly, spending hours photographing my dog, Bugsy – who inspired me to set up my business. Having now developed my own style and gained confidence, I love to learn from the experts. There is so much new to know about photography!
In 2015 I achieved my Licentiate with the SWPP and this year I was very proud to receive my reciprocal Licentiate with the MPA. In 2017, I plan to work towards my Associate qualification.
