Did it take you long to establish your name and brand?
Some think photography is easy and straightforward. But it’s a real labour of love, requiring phenomenal precision, care and commitment to achieve a polished end-result. I've dedicated strong financial and personal commitment to my business, supported my husband in his launching two successful businesses over the years and used that learning to start my own – none of this happened by accident. I'm a member of a motivational networking group, ‘Bigger, Brighter, Bolder; the Mindset for Success' and attend regular meetings to set fortnightly, monthly, quarterly and annual stretch-goals to turn my business vision into a reality.
Pepperpots Photography was my initial business name, but a few weeks ago I re-branded to Karen Bennett Photography, as I realised I'd been hiding behind the name ‘Pepperpots’ and my different roles relating to the very strong characters in my family. For many years, my mum ran a successful country inn, so I was ‘Dotty’s daughter’. My husband is a successful entrepreneur, so I was his wife. People referred to me as my daughter’s mum and my sister’s twin. After lots of discussion with friends and family, I realised I should rebrand my business as a sign of my growing confidence and self-belief; I am now my brand. This has been a major stepping stone towards me establishing myself as a self-employed photographer and beginning a brand new chapter. My time has come. To move forward and shape my own future.
