What does your business and your photography say about you?
My business reflects absolutely everything about me. I am infinitely patient and take a lot of care to make my work as professional as possible.
I also love to ensure my clients (both pets and families) are perfectly at ease. I'm an extremely compassionate person. I know animals often react badly to new and stressful situations, so the cornerstone of my business is to make them feel calm, so their owner can too. I have a special way with animals and have attended a dog behavioural course, gained a Canine Certificate, attended a Canine Communication workshop and attended the Academy of Modern canine behaviour training, all of which help me read the signs as to whether an animal feels at ease.
Everything about me is represented in my pet photography business, it's a new chapter of my life. I concentrate on a single genre, focusing on what I love best; photographing animals and their families.
Do you enter competitions?
It took me a while to get into competitions. I set myself a monthly commitment to enter the Socieities’ monthly competition as it teaches me to look at my photos in a different way. I use a mixture of client and personal images, although 70% of images entered are from client commissions.
Last year's annual goal was to be awarded Gold. I was awarded a Highly Commended, which was upgraded to Gold and went on to be nominated for Photographer of the Year. I was delighted to receive, ‘3rd Place Pet Portrait’. I continually practise in my studio to help me win future competitions.
